Bachelorette Episode One

Originally, I was going to group this in three or so episodes at a time. But I thought I would just do them episode by episode. Just like any other American woman in my age group I’m obsessed with “The Bachelor/Bachelorette” franchise. Even though we all know that people of color haven’t been well represented on the show. At least until the 21st season of “The Bachelor” and this season of “The Bachelorette” is even more diverse. The show has even gain a few new viewers mainly because the franchise as its first African American woman as the front runner. I personally like Rachel and I hope that she finds love at the end of this.

I watched the show and re watched the show and re watched the show. Only for research purposes only I swear. I observed the behavior of the guys and Rachel’s interaction with them. Which led me to these thoughts.

1. The hometown introductions couldn’t be more overly produced if they weren’t produced.

2. Talking about sex before you even really get to know her?

3. We meet all of Rachel's suitors some of them are top choosing. Others are not so much, take Wahbooom guy for one. I'm sure he's great but that gimmick is a little annoying.

4. If Rachel ever needs a dog sitter for Cooper, I’m available.

5. I like Peter’s socks.

6. I would be so annoyed standing there in heels waiting for these guys. Could I have a chair?

7. Bryan, talking in Spanish? Yes! Yes!

8. I don’t know how I would feel if someone told me what Dean told Rachel. Like OK! But also…OK.

9. Is Fred trying to rekindle an old childhood crush?

10. Fred must have had a thing for Rachel, I hardly remember anyone I went to school with.

11. What the hell is a tickle monster. And why is this a profession.

12. Adam's doll reminds me of B horror movie version of “Annabelle” or “The Boy”.

13. How do people leave their jobs to do this show? Is your job waiting for you when you come back?

14. If things don't work out with penguin guy she should introduce him to Alexis aka shark (dolphin) girl.

15. Jack Stone's smile kind of scares me.

16. This season is more diverse than Nick's season of “The Bachelor”.

17. The answer is always Backstreet Boys, Rachel. ALWAYS.

18. How in the world is she remembering these guys names?

19. There so many law people.

20. The AJ scenes had me dying. DYING.

21. Speaking of the Backstreet Boys, can they make an appearance this season?

22. That kiss that Bryan put on Rachel!!! Then again!!!

23. Sending Blake K home?! :( I’ll take him.

24. Alex is form the same city as me. If he doesn’t make it, hey hit me up!!

25. This party started at night and then when the guys are leaving its day light. How long are these parties? Is a nap built in?

My predictions for the final four are: Alex, Bryan, Josiah and Peter getting the final rose.

Career Search

It’s graduation season and kids and adults from kindergarten all the way up to college are walking across the stage and entering their next phase in life. A while back I wrote an article called Bachelor’s Degree? What else do you have?.  I talked about how a bachelor degree is just as good as a high school diploma these days. I graduated in 2012 with hopes that I would find a job in media. While, I kind of work in media, it’s not in the area I

I always dreamed of working in television growing up and I would even pretend that I had my own talk show like Rikki Lake. But when I was in college I don’t believe that I took the proper steps to achieve my dreams. My school had a TV and Radio station that I didn’t utilize. While I can’t be 100% sure that working for my school’s TV station would have helped I can’t say that it wouldn’t have either.

After applying to over 300 jobs (yes that is an accurate number) in the last three years I haven’t had much luck in finding the job of my dreams. Or even one that allows me to pay my bills and not live pay check to pay check. To help boost my resume I went back to school for a certificate in social media. Five months after completing that, I’m sadly still in the same position. But, luck enough I am using my certificate by volunteering for my local chapter of the American Cancer Society helping them with their social media posts for a local relay event. I also can’t forget The Odyssey Online and being able to be creative in my writing. As well as dabbling in YouTube every now and then.

Will those help me get my foot in the door somewhere? I don’t know. But if I don’t try then I’ll never know if it would have worked or not. While I’m still searching I’m also thinking was communications the right field for me? Should I have pursed psychology or education? This is actually something that I’m considering since I feel like the media world has no place for me.

I’m going to be 30 in a few months and I feel thought my best years are gone. I try not to compare myself to my peers but I feel as though I don’t measure up to others my age. While all that sounds depressing, I’m writing this to say that. While things may not work out for you in the beginning there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Don’t get discourage if the first or second internship or job doesn’t hire you. Someone out there will see your potential and want you on their team. As for me, I’ll keep thinking of articles to submit to The Odyssey Online, volunteering and making videos. As well as praying and hoping that someone see’s my potential, ambition and takes the chance to hire me.

Thoughts on 13 Reasons Why

I read the 13 Reasons Why book about a year or so ago. I can't say I loved it, but I can't say that I hated it either.
I was excited when I found out that Netflix were going to put Jay Asher's words to life. The live version went into deeper detail than then the book.

If you haven't read the book (which you should read) or seen it on Netflix (which you should do) it's a story about a girl named Hannah Baker. Hannah in high school student who tragically takes her life. She records cassettes tapes beforehand that identifies the people who bullied her.

It seems as though bullying is at an all-time high. Kids drop of school, they self-harm and sadly they may try end their life. Even more sad some of them are successful. Much like the book the show follows Clay who Hannah knew and I guess you can were friends. In this version though we learn more in debt of the issues Hannah faced.

Watching this program lets you realize how vicious people can be toward each other. While some say it's just a TV show, it's just a book. It's much more than that. This is how many high school kids (and sometimes kids in lower grades) treat each other.

Everyone that Hannah places her hurt and pain on tried so hard to get Clay (the current recipient of the tapes) quite form spilling the beans on what they did to her. They even went as far as to planting drugs in his book bag. Their reasoning was to let him know who's in charge. Mainly because they said Hannah was lying. But, each of them knew the truth of what they did. Another issue that many young people not taking responsibility of their actions.

There’s nothing about this story that's happy. It's a dark story and frankly rather sad and depressing. But watching it you become emotionally invested and want the best for Hannah, even though you know the outcome.

When I read a book, or become attached to a character in a TV series I root for them and I kind of think of them as a friend. My one wish is that generations younger than mine can learn from this. I hope that they learn to, as cliché as it sounds to treat people the way that they would want to be treated. As well as taking a stand when you see that someone else is being treating unfairly.

Sometimes it’s hard to put yourself as someone else’s defender, but letting others know that their behavior isn’t tolerated will help to take a stand against bullying.
